Walter and Frances Hawes’s children. Family information identifies four siblings: Eric William Valentine, George W., Gladys M. and Mary. George W. Hawes has a Camberwell birth index entry for January–March 1911 (mother’s maiden surname Creese; volume 1D, page 751). Gladys M. Hawes has a Lambeth birth index entry for October–December 1913 (mother’s maiden surname Creese; volume 1D, page 843). The family confirms Gladys’s middle name was Madeline: she was known as Madeline, and friends and husbands called her Sally. Her middle name and nickname are recorded from family testimony, while the birth index only shows the initial M. Mary Hawes, the youngest, has a matching Croydon birth registration for January–March 1919 (mother’s maiden surname Creese; volume 2A, page 433). Their descendant branches can be expanded as details are contributed.

The export contains a potential duplicate Sophia Maria Davison/Day entry; relationships involving her are explicitly flagged. Only historical generations are displayed; recent living family members remain private.

New census evidence

The Hawes household in Lambeth, 1891

A supplied census transcript records Sophia Maira D. Hawes, Mary Emma, Caroline Maria and a four-year-old grandson named Walter J. Wm. Hawes. This Walter is not assumed to be Walter Hawes born around 1879. The new evidence is recorded separately until we can inspect the original page and confirm the relationships.

A shared family project

Not one person’s ancestry. Our shared story.

The archive is organised by people and family relationships rather than by one descendant’s perspective. The current GEDCOM covers several historical Hawes branches, including the children of William and Elizabeth Mullinex Hawes, the large family of Thomas Henry Hawes and the descendants of William Henry Bartleman Hawes. The family tree will grow as more relatives contribute photographs, documentary evidence and memories.

Privacy and accuracy: Details of living family members are not published from the GEDCOM. A relationship in an Ancestry tree is not proof by itself. Historical portraits are only displayed when tied to an identifiable source, and unverified family recollections are labelled.
