Biography
Birth
The copied birth entry gives 7 November 1850 at 355 Strand, parish of St Clement Danes, London. Her parents were William Henry Bartleman Hawes, surgeon, and Sophia Maria Davison Hawes, formerly Day.
Death and brother's evidence
The family-held death abstract records Mary Emma's death on 8 December 1893 at 119 Bedford Road, Stockwell, aged 43. It lists influenza followed by phlebitis and exhaustion. Her brother W. E. Wilson Hawes was present and gave his address as 17 Sibella Road, Clapham. This is direct documentary evidence connecting the siblings.
Later family household
The Stockwell address was also the place where Sophia Maria died in February 1895, an important link between the family-held document and late-Victorian census research.
