The handwritten birth abstract records 16 August 1853 at 406 Strand, London, daughter of William Henry Bartleman Hawes and Sophia Maria Davison Hawes, formerly Day. The birth was registered on 27 September 1853.
Evidence of her father's profession
The entry describes William Henry Bartleman Hawes as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This supports the occupational description and the 406 Strand address in contemporary trade directories.
Death and family burial
A family memorial card states that Caroline died on 15 February 1896 and was interred in the family grave at Kensal Green Cemetery. It gives her age as 43, but her recorded birth on 16 August 1853 would make her 42 at death. Both original sources are preserved with the discrepancy flagged. An 1891 census transcription may include Caroline in Sophia’s household; the underlying census should be inspected.
